Title:  Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance

Business: Bush Hog, Inc.

Location: Selma, AL

Type of business and market: Manufacturer of farm, landscape/turf and golf course equipment for national and international markets.

Key transportation objective: Deliver equipment on time and in perfect condition.

Began using RLT: 1995

Most Important benefit: Our equipment arrives in first-class condition.

Results in their own words: Our customers want their equipment fast. They want it in good shape. And they want all the parts. We make sure they get it that way by delivering it ourselves.

We take pride in the condition of our equipment when it arrives at our customers' locations. We just put in a multi-million dollar paint system. Our equipment looks first-class when it leaves here and we make sure it arrives that way. Appearance is important to our customers.

Our trailer floors take a beating. The equipment we manufacture is extremely heavy. Sometimes our customers don't have the best means to unload it. Often it is dragged over the floor. It has been dropped. The floor takes a lot of abuse. If it isn't strong you could actually punch a hole in it. That could create a dangerous situation for our driver, our customer and anyone else who has to walk on that floor.

In the past, we've used treated pine for floors. We put plywood on top of the pine to make the floor strong enough and to keep the equipment from getting damaged. A good floor is very important to the appearance of our equipment. Holes in the floor can result in damage to the equipment. For example, salt can splash up   through a hole in the floor and damage the finish. We don't let that happen.

We use RLT flooring. It is a full-length floor. Each plank is as long as the trailer. RLT eliminates having to make seams in the floor. It makes an extremely strong, more stable floor. And it costs less to install it.

I believe RLT will last longer. We have been putting it in for about three years now. We haven't had to repair any of it. I think that is because eliminating all the seams eliminated the absorption of water and oil at their ends. Also, seams are not always even. Eliminating them means a fork tine or piece of equipment isn't going to get hung up on them and peel the board back.

RLT flooring is a cost saver in three ways. The main way is that is is less expensive to install. You don't have to cut it and screw down the board ends. That's a tremendous time saver. Less maintenance and longer life are the other two. They add up to significant savings.

We won't use anything else to re-floor these trailers.
